Outreach at Central Christian Church
What is the Outreach Committee?
The Outreach Committee is a committee focused on spreading God's Word by financially supporting the people and programs dedicated to reaching those in need locally, nationally and internationally.
Outreach is truly the backbone of Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregations. Jesus said: "I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed Me, I was naked and you clothed Me, I was in prison and you came to Me. And when you do this to one of the least of these, you do it to Me." (Matthew 25:35-26 & 40)
We are the only committee whose budget is proposed, collected and given away. Every penny we collect in special offerings or fund raisers has a purpose and is disbursed accordingly.
Special Day Offerings
We are the committee responsible for collecting the special offerings each year. Each special offering is used for a specific purpose:
- Reconciliation Offering - Provides the primary support of Disciple's efforts to advocate against and dismantle racism and structural oppression.
- Thanksgiving - Provides support for Disciples colleges and universities such as Transylvania in Lexington, KY, Eureka College in Eureka, IL, and Culver-Stockton in Canton, MO, as well as seven Theological institutions affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) including Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis.
- Christmas - Supports Indiana regional ministries such as camps, conferences, pastoral care, regional educational opportunities and establishing new congregations.
- Week of Compassion - Disaster relief and reconciliation mission in the United States and throughout the world that is received in late February.
- Easter - Goes to general ministries, to ensure that the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will continue to be and share the Good News of Jesus Christ from our doorsteps to the ends of the earth.
- Pentecost - An annual offering received in the late spring that supports the establishment of new Disciples of Christ congregations. Disciples established a goal to start 1000 new congregations by 2020.
Other Projects and Ministries

What the Outreach Committee Does
- We present special offering campaigns. These include a letter and a Minute for Mission, and fundraiser work as needed.
- We plan and hold fundraising activities such as the bi-annual rummage sale, a chili supper and silent auctions to help send our missionaries to the mission field.
Are YOU a Missionary?
- If you have traveled to another country to help others in God's name, you are a missionary.
- If you have traveled to another state to help those devastated by storms and destruction, you are a missionary.
- If you have traveled to teach Children about our Lord, help others less fortunate or be a witness for God, you are a missionary.
- If you have served a meal to someone who is hungry, you are a missionary.
- If you have traveled across the Street or even next door to help someone in need, you are a missionary.
